Subject: Serious Transfer Case issues IP: Logged
Message: I have a 94 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with the 3.9L V6. I was leaving my dorm up in the UP to go get some munchies. The roads very very icy so naturally I put the truck in 4 High.I began to climb a hill and about half way up the hill my truck felt like something was slipping. I pulled over on the side of the road and checked underneath. I noticed a large puddle of fluid that looked like it was coming from the front differential. So then my transfer case seemed to quit working. I put it in all 3 modes and I had no power to any of the wheels. So my buddy towed to a safe place to keep it. I hsve no idea what is wrong with it. Anyone out there got an idea what could be the culprut to my problem.

Message: It sounds like all the fluid leaked out of your transmission. Hope everything works out.

Message: yeah. Probably the FRONT SEAL of your tranny!
Don't try driving it at all or you will smoke the clutch packs in a minute.
Assuming you have an AUTO tranny. but that's the only thing that makes sense.

Message: Ok I looked at my truck this morning and it seemed that the front tranny cooler had a line fall off. So all the fluid leaked on the ground. So is the tranny most likely toast, or can I add fluid too it and see if the pump or anything else didnt take a crap.

Message: If you didn't drive it with no fluid, you will probably get away with putting new fluid in it.It's worth a try. Dan

Message: Went out today and added like 8 qts of fluid to the tranny. After letting it run for about 20 min. The trucks tranny would engage the gears and the tranny worked. Some how that tranny took the abuse of running very low on fluid to possibly out and it didnt fry yhr pump or the clutches. Good tranny in that truck Anyways later this week I will be replacing whatever broke so my truck will be good for the road again. I due believe one of the rubber hoses broke or came off the tranny cooler. SO thanks for all your help and to the contrare I like my truck.
