Unclip the crossbars and slide them toward the back. Open the liftgate to remove the rail clips on each side. Slide the crossbars off, reinstall rail clips and close liftgate. The roof rails themselves will have to stay on, flush with the roof. If you attempt to remove the screws that secure the rails to the roof, the retainers on the bottom side will fall down, and it's a real pain to drop the headliner and try to fish them out from between the roof panels.
