I got mine the other day too ('01 4X4). I made an appointment, brought it in yesterday morning, and went to work. They called me at 3:00 to tell me that they didn't have the ball joints in stock. Morons. I let them know that I was extremely upset at their lack of service and that, as a remedy for their stupidity, they could install my HO cams (sitting in the passenger chair) at a cut-rate "warranty" price. I dropped it off again this morning and will let you know how the bargaining went.

Day 2 of Ball Joint replacement:
I brought the truck in again this morning. Got a ride to work. Got a call from the "service" department manager. The ball joints still aren't there. He made some comment about how DC should have gottent their ducks in a row before announcing the recall, but that still doesn't make my truck any safer. I told him that he can't controll the availability of the joints, but he can controll the cost to put in the Cams. He dropped the cost by half and they are getting put in today. The Ball joints may be there tomorrow. I am expecting them to be at the service department some time next month. I just hope the wheels don't fall off while I am "breaking in" my new cams this afternoon.

$350 for cams. I know it may be more than the tools that it would cost to do it myself, but I just don't have the time, expertice, garage, and know-how to deal with any problems that may arise (dropped timing chain, busted gasket, etc.).
Update: The Stealership does not have the right tool to do the work on the cams. Wonderful. Now it is their fault for not having their ducks in a row, not DC's. The Ball Joints are still not in and they will have to keep the whole truck until tomorrow... ... with no offer of a loaner car. Hopefully, this exersise will be over with tomorrow, but I seriously doubt it. It's 1:42 here in Texas and I need a drink.

Sounds like an excuse to me.
I can't speak for everyone, but we had the "special tool Nazi" pay us a visit about a year ago. Made sure we had all our special toys and made sure we got the ones that were missing.
Bossman put up a bounty on some of 'em; so he wouldn't have to buy another.

Got my letter yesterday morning for my 01 CC 2x4 and was off looking for a stealership an hour later. Trouble was that a lot of people got their letters before I did and did the same thing. Six stops and NO bjs left. Earliest estimate was Monday. Oh well...at least there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Yes, I am complaining in public about them not having a tool to use on discounted work. They are a Dodge dealership. They specialize in working on Dodges. I wouldn't complain if I brought in a BMW, but this is what they are supposed to do. I would complain if my bank didn't have any $100 bills and I am complaining about a Dodge "service" department not having an Dodge tool to put Dodge certified Mopar parts in a very popular and widely used Dodge engine. It's just what they do. (end rant)

We don't need no steenking special tools ! Dimensions to cut the simple wood wedge are all over this site. Why don't you do a search and hook them up with a couple like I did for the mechanic who helped me do mine. You're getting a fair price on the install, valve cover R&R is pretty tight.

Welll, folks: Here we go. Sorry for not posting earlier, as I didn't have to work on MLK day.
The Stealership called on Friday and said everything was done. I inspected the Ball Joints and they looked pretty good. I am still concerned about the lower joints, but that will just have to wait. The clunking is still there and I may have a suspension guy look at them in the future. I have put brakes as a priority on the truck before new suspension parts.
As for the cams, they are working very well. They didn't charge me tax on the work and just sent me on my way. I put on a few miles, SMOKED a chevy silverado (in my 4X4), and put some fresh Mobil One and a K&N oil filter in the Dak. I can really see how the torque curve has moved down in the band into the 3000 RPM range. I am also running 93 Octane in preparation for my Superchips tuner to come back from the "reprogramming department."
All in all, I got a good deal on the install and the run-around from DC on the ball joints. Typical of dealerships, if they are the only ones in town they can do whatever they want.
