Message: Guys I am looking at buying a 2002 or later Dakota quad cab 4.7l v8 4x4.
My question is; How hard is it for the mechanics to add the coolers that come on the factory option if the truck doesn't come with it? The salesmen all say it's no big deal at about $250. But I don't believe salesmen.
So after lurking here for a few mounths I figure you guys should have the answer, you seen to have all of them.
Thanks for your time.

Message: It really is no big deal. The factory kit comes with every part needed, including the instructions. And service techs (should) have all the special little tools needed. Even a new tech fresh out of school should be able to handle this job - which is a good thing because that's probably who's going to be doing this job.
Fit's like it was made for it.

Message: Automatic transmission add-on fluid cooler really is no big deal, but I think you could do a lot better on the cost by either doing it yourself with the help of a knowledgeable friend, or ask around your neck of the woods for a reputable place to take it to have it done for you.
I recommend the following cooling fluid routing: from transmission to add-on cooler to radiator tank cooler to transmission. There are differences of opinion on this. Some will say it should go to the radiator tank first, then to the add-on cooler.
But I prefer to have the tranmission fluid temp and coolant temp moderate each other.
There's also a steering pump cooler, but unless you're running mountain switchbacks all day, you shouldn't need one.
