No noticable valve train noise on startup. The Mobil 1 5w30 may be a factor. By the way, using the larger filters: put 195K on the 2.2, 217K on the 5.2, and 104K to date on the 4.7... "works for me!". Other factors? 25% 93 octane/ 75% 87 octane in fuel tank; routine use of STP concentrated injector cleaner in tank; Bosch Platinum +4 plugs.

Jag, Auto-RX is an internal engine cleaner that works over a period of about 1500 miles. It cleans the oil passages and dissolves sludge and varnish. I used instead of the Gunk 5 minute stuff because of the testimonials here and on other automotive message boards. It's expensive, but it does work really well.

I originally used it because of the 4.7L's known tendency to sludge up regradless of how well it is serviced. I didn't think it would quiet down my noisy valve lash adjuster and I already had a new set ready to install. I figured since the 4.7L has very small oil ports(compared to other engines)it wouldn't hurt to run some cleaner through the system before I work on it. Well after the clean and rinse cycle with Auto-RX I was surprised that my lash adjuster was significantly quieter. I would have to guess that there must have been some sludge or varnish causing it to stick. It still makes a little noise and I do still plan on replacing them, but now I don't feel like it is so urgent. It now is completely quiet after the engien is warmed up, where as before it tapped all of the time.

I get nothing out of recommending any product. I used Auto-Rx and was very happy with the results and I'm happy to share my experiance. If nothing else it's cheap insurance to clean any possible sludge that COULD be building up with out evidence yet.
