Is anyone else having this problem with their fuel gauge? This is an intermittent problem. After starting my truck, mine will stay on empty then sometimes creep up to near the true level of gasoline in the tank while other times (like today) not move at all. I’ve checked what grounding straps I could find and they all look good.

Welcome to my world.

My gauge will be on empty, other times normal, and some times will fluxuate as I drive. I think it has somthing to do with that floaty in the tank, I'm not sure.

I've just learned to live with it. From what I hear, it costs about $400 to fix. I think I'll just keep watching my miles and hold on to my $400 like I've been doing.

Now that I'm on your world, what kind of fix are you talking about?

YOu guys don't use shell gas by any chance?

In any case, try switching where you buy gas and run a couple bottles of injector cleaner through the tank. A bad batch of fuel or two can gum up fuel components and it's not uncommon for Shell to have bad gas.

Negative on the Shell gasoline. The injectors are good, no hesitation or fluxation with the RPM's or engine power. The truck runs like there's no tomorrow. I think the problem is electrical. BTW- the last two days the gauge has been right on! Go figure.

Do a search on fuel gage or guage and you will get much info. Seek and destroy.

I used to have a similar problem with my fuel gauge as well. It would stop reading or get stuck at half a tank then start again.

First thing I did was pull the box off. (Believe me it is easier than dropping the fuel tank.)

Then I removed the sending unit from the tank.

On the side of the sending unit is a small circuit board thingy. As the float raises and lowers a small spring press a contact against the board. This is what sends the signal to your gauge.

My circuit board had a layer of what looked like carbon or something built up on it. So I found the finest sandpaper possible and sanded away the dirt. Once I had nice clean contacts I reassembled everything and it worked perfect.
