Subject: temp sensor

what is the purpose of what appears to be a temperature sensor, at the lower dash drivers side. It is where my right knee is while sitting in the seat. I have standard ac/heat not auto temp control.

Just below the dash/removable panel at the bottom/closest to the console
would be near my right knee if I were in the drivers seat
looks like the sensor that is in front of the radiator support -the one for the overhead computer outside temperature

Just a guess.
When you turn on the AC, the compressor doesn't run continuously, but is controlled by a "thermostat" in the cab. That's probably it.
