Subject: Heater Fan Dead

ON the way home from work tonight, driving in the snow, my heater fan suddenly went dead. No other electricals seem to be affected, and I've checked the fuses and can't find any that are blown. Anyone know what else is connected on the same circuit as the fan? Also, how do I get access to the fan so I can see if it's receiving power?? Truck *just* went out of warranty 2 months ago with only 35k miles and now this is the second time in 6 wks that something has failed on the truck-- I think I'm losing faith in it...
Appreciate any help you can offer,
Thanks

DG

CC, check this out. there is a reostat where your fan box is (passengerside underneath look for two small shiny screws and a small wireing harness pop that out R&R it reostat costs about $12.00. My fan was only working half speed that did the trick. good luck!

Thanks! Fan is working again, you were dead on target-- part number is 1-04885635AC for my '01 Dak and price was $9.45. Fan fired up the instant I plugged in the new resistor, chapest repair job I've ever had. This site is a great resource!

Just had the heater fan die last week, checked every fuse,
stumped, I googled and found this message board, had the part
the next day, thanks guys, saved me some coin.
They have updated the part to solid state so it should last
longer, cost me $7.50 canadian, part #1-05061575AA or
56747A.
By the way on my '04 the screws are black hex heads and ya, it's
up underneath the passenger side, a bit awkward but no
problem. I found it easier to remove the two screws drop it
down and then take the wire harness off.

the resistor block is bolted through the firewall on the passengers side
upper corner there is a big plug going into it, pull the bolts out and you can check it

My heater fan went dead. While driving earlier, I remember the smell of burning plastic.

I popped the hood and found a melted plastic housing with wires in it connecting to some blade electrical connectors mounted to the passenger side of the firewall.

I've tried cleaning the terminals and it worked again for a while, but has quit now.

Any suggestions on how to repair it?
I know how to cut, solder and insulate wires.

I've got a 1994 Dodge Dakota V8 magnum SLT.

Thanks,

Brad :)

I've had this resister go before, replaced it, and the blower motor was good. Did it again a few months ago, except instead of losing all 4 blower positions, I lost positions 3 and 4. After about 2 weeks position 3 came back, so position 4 was the only one that was dead. I replaced the resistor again, now positions 1 and 4 are dead. Ironically, now there is a draw somewhere in the electrical system and if I leave the battery connected overnight the battery is completely discharged by the morning. Any idea what would make this issue so intermittent?

Ok guys hopefully you can help me out here. I would post seperate but im not a member. Anyhow i have a 2001 dodge dakota with a 2.5L. The heater doesnt blow hot air at all. It used to blow warmish when i bought it about 2 yrs ago. Now it blows damn near cold. I would think it's the heater core however. Here's the catch when it did blow warm air it only blew out of 2 of 4 vents. I would also think it's the thermoustat but engine run temp is normal. Any suggestions? I heard it could be acutater but i dont kno where it is, or what it does.... Please help!!! it's cold outside!!!

First to get heat, you need to backflush the heater core. As far as the air only coming out of some vents, could be the actuator.

Just wanted to say thanks for the great advice regarding my broken heater in my 2002 Dakota.
I paid $13.00 from Cranbrook BC Dodge dealer(wow) for a new resistor, fitting was a bit tricky as i needed to brake off the tabs near to the bolt holes, apart from that the job was straight forward and I now have a fully working blower and warm air. As its -18 outside it also got me out the usual dog house!!! Great website, recommend to any dodge owner. Thanks again

No Blower, No Radio
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 1993 Dakota LE that I inherited when my Dad passed about a year ago. I'm trying to find out what may cause the blower not to blow at all. Also, the radio doesn't work, there is power and I can hear static when I first turn it on but it doesn't tune and there is no sound. The clock works intermittently to. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Start by checking dash ground wire.
I believe 93 is under dash & left of steering
column.

The heater blower fan does it work on any speed or
none at all?

Mine is '02. Fan only on hi speed, but temp control was still working. After a while, temp control also quit. Now I sometimes get hot, sometimes cold air. Is there a rheostat for temp control in same location?

Independent mechanic told me need to replace whole heater box, about $500 for part & $400 labor. But part is currently not available!

Fan on Hi-Speed only is the resistor block located in the cab, passenger side and I think somewhere between the floor and glove box. Probably about 20 bucks for that. Temp control could be a vacuumm leak or actuator.
