Is your "DAKAOTA" 2WD or 4WD?
Here's the 2WD version cut and pasted from a Service Manual CD.

REMOVAL - 2WD
NOTE: The steering column on vehicles with an automatic transmission may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.
(1) Siphon out as much power steering fluid as possible from the pump.
(2) Lock the steering wheel.
(3) Raise and support the vehicle.
(4) Remove the front tires.
(5) Remove the nuts from the tie rod ends.
(6) Separate tie rod ends from the knuckles.
(7) Remove the power steering lines from the gear.
(8) Remove the lower coupler bolt and slide the coupler off the gear.
(9) Remove the mounting bolts from the gear to the front crossmember and remove the gear.

Of course, installation is the reverse of removal.
Simple, eh? 4WD has a few more steps.

Then new step 7 and beyond:

(7) Remove the splash shield from under the front end to gain access to the gear.
(8) Remove the skid plate.
(9) Remove the power steering lines from the gear.
(10) Remove the lower coupler bolt and slide the coupler off the gear.
(11) Remove the mounting bolts from the gear to the front crossmember. Slide the gear to the right side of the vehicle. Then tilt the left end of the gear down and remove the gear.

On my 93, the steering shaft connection to the rack is in 2 pieces. I was able to unbolt the rack and the 2 peices of steering shaft slid apart at the area where you will see an expanded portion with a rubber insert in the lower half of the steering shaft, allowing me to put the rack on the shop floor and punch out the spring pin holding the lower half of the steering shaft, and pry it off of the spline on the input side of the rack. When you purchase your replacement rack, inspect the spline on the input of the rack, if damaged in any way, ask for another one. The first time I did it, I noticed that there was a flattened edge on the spline, and within 6 months, the seal at the input shaft started to leak. So I had to do this job all over again. Good Luck.

Yes, it does.

I can tell you tomorrow which one is which - but on
the new rack I'm in the middle of swapping into the
stepson's 1988, the two ports are slightly different
sizes. This may make it easier to match up.
