Subject: HELP!!! IP: Logged
Message: I bought a MP PCM for my 99 Dakota. I went and had the VIN number installed into it but they programed THE WRONG ONE I have a V8 "Y" engine and whey put a V6 "X" into the PCM. Now I have a check engine light on... is it related? HOw do i fix this?

Message: Sure it can have the VIN reprogrammed. How do you know they put in an "X" instead of a "Y"? And how can they claim to have done it right if they did?
Anyway a bad VIN will indeed cause the check engine light to come on (the PCM must sync to the ABS controller).
