Message: I took my Dak in for the recall of ball joints today and had the dealer check out the vibration i would get everytime I'd touch the brakes.
They said my brakes were over 1/2 gone and my rotors were warped. They resurfaced the rotors and put new break pads on for $135. The rotors should be covered under the 3/36 warranty. The Dak is an 02 with 29K miles
My booklet says all but tires are covered then you flip the page to brakes and rotors are only covered for 1yr/12k.
I am going to call Chrysler and tell them about this issue though.

Message: Pads 1/2 gone is still OK. Rotor warpage is usually from overtorquing of the lug nuts.

Message: Warpage of brake rotors has multiple possible causes including over-torque on the lug nuts. The brake system's ability (or inability) to deal with heat, the frequency of use while in an extreme heat condition, multiple panic stops in a very brief time frame (a minute or two), heavy hauling while traveling thru mountainous terrain without sufficient trailer brakes, oh yeah...and DC crappy Dakota rotors.

Message: The bottom line is 2002DakSport you got took from
the stealership.
For $175.00 on my 02 Sport 4X4 I replaced the
rotors and used ceramic pads all from Advanced
Auto Parts.
DC's junk rotors are not worth turning. You'll
soon discover that after driving yours a few
hundred miles. Plus DC's warranty is what your
owners manual states. Kinda tells you they knew
they would never last.

Same brake warranty as all domestic makes...not sure about all imports, but many of them have the 12/12 brake warranty also.

Message: I had my stock rotors turned on my 02 at about 38,000 miles. Havent had any more vibrations and im now at around 44,000. Of course i dont do any towing and there is never any weight in the bed so that might have something to do with it.

Message: I towed a lot with my 00 CC and cheap replacement rotors would last 10K before they waped, if I was lucky. I finally bit the bullet and put on a $200 set of drilled and slotted rotors with a premium set of pads and it resolved the rotors warping,,, even after towing 1-2 times a month and driving 40K.

Message: I am on my third Dakota--95,98 & 02. A tip to pass on that was told to me by a Dodge Service Manager years ago--don't waste your time or money turning rotors--just replace them. Really isn't a big difference in price between the labor to turn them vs. taking them out of the box and bolting them on. My first set of rotors on my 2002 Dakota only lasted 28,000 miles. The replacement one are fine and I have 70,000 miles on the truck. The thing I can't figure out is why are the "new" rotors on a new truck so much worse than the replacement Mopar ones???? I have done the same thing when it was time to do brake work on our last two JEEPs. You can be sure that I will buy a forth Dakota. My treatment at Dodge Dealerships has been excellent. The truck tows a 4,000 lb boat (have brakes on the trailer), goes off-road on the beaches of Cape Cod, has brought me safely through some nasty snow and ice storms and rides really well on the highway. The 4.7 V8 was a big improvement over the 5.2 V8. Best part, it fits in the garage and you can park it. Yes, the Dodge Boys did my Ball Joints this week without problem.

Message: O'Reillys has aome lifetime warranty rotors, for about $45 a piece. If they warp, take them bakc and get your money back, or just get new ones. Not too bad of a deal.

Message: 2002DakSport never did say if he has a 4X2 or 4X4.
Makes a big difference in the price of front
rotors.
