Subject: Is there and air filter for the cab ?

When my truck sits for a couple of days and I crank up the air or heat, it smells like an old ashtray.

Is there a filter or something that can be cleaned in line with the cab air to help eliminate this?

Check for water under the passenger side carpet.
If water found, there are many threads on this
site as to why.

Depends on the year. Mines a 99 and has no cabin air filter. You can input your particular vehicle at
http://www.pennzoil.com/moremilesclub/default.html
under filters and it will tell you which filters are used.
Couple of suggestions: place a clothes dryer sheet in one of the vents. Spray Joust or Lysoil into the air intake. Check for wetness - as RadioMan said. I don't smoke but do pour in some carpet fresh into the ashtray - the baking soda absorbs odor.

Good afternoon!

I checked the Pennzoil site, and it said there was no cabin filter for my 88 Dakota.

However, there is a black foam filter over the recirc air intake (bottom between the front footwells). What do you call that if not a cabin filter? Was that an after-market add-on (I did buy this truck used).

I'm wondering what I could do to replace it, since it's starting to crumble. Would taking it out and gluing a piece of filter over the hole work? What kind of material would work best, and what should I avoid?

Thanks,

Rob
