Subject: Starter/Electrical Problem...

Hi, I was wondering If you guys could possibly help me on something; I would greatly appreciate it!

Okay, I went outside one morning to start my truck up (92 Dakota Sport; 5.2L Engine) & It would not turnover. Everything seemed to work the day before. As I put the engine into the ON position everything seems to buzz as normal, but then when I go to put it into the START (to start truck) position, the battery gauge goes all the way down to ZERO & I get no turning over at all. Complete silence.

If I put the truck in the ON position & then go under the hood to push the Starter Relay manually the truck starts fine. I checked most of the fuses & the relays; and to my knowledge everything looks in good condition. I had just got the IGNITION SWITCH replaced; and that was not the problem. But; What I can't figure out is this: I have power coming into the switch, I have power going to all the other terminals except to the START terminal. Now, If I turn the key I get no power to the relay, but If I run a jumper wire between power inlet & the starter terminal the starter engages.

Has anyone had any similar problems or have any idea's on how to correct & fix this?? Thanks!

It's a switch that interrupts power to the starter if your tranmission is not in PARK or NEUTRAL, or for manual transmissions, if the clutch pedal is not fully depressed.
For automatics, it's typically on or in the trans.
For manuals, it's usually part of the clutch pedal assembly.

This is the problem... the night before, I got a new Stereo installed. When I got home, I had the volume loud. While the motor was on, the stereo was on. When i put the volume at a high level; the engine shutdown immediatly. I checked the fuses, one was blew, but after that, i repalced it. Then after that was done, everything worked fine, except for the starter... Any more help?? Thanks!
