Message: Just got my 03 QC last week and knew the balljoints could be bad, so when I started hearing a popping noise going into parking lots at 10mph I wasn't surprised. Since I still had 6K on the 3/36 warranty I didn't even think about trying to figure out what the problem was since the noise was exactly like my 00 when the balljoints went bad.
Took it to the dealer and they called me back later today saying the ball joints were tight, but they found a BEER BOTTLE inside the drivers fender which was causing the popping noise. Yeah right, I was saying to myself. I talked to the mechanic, real nice older guy, and was fairly convinced that the beer bottle was the problem.
Drove the truck around for an hour and the noise was gone. Whoever that drunk b@st@rd was who left the beer bottle in the fender cost me $70. Bet he's laughin his azz off,,,

Message: DSW, you do know that there is now a ball joint
recall on your Dakota, don't you? Even if they
are tight, they get replaced. You should be
getting a recall letter in the mail from DC.

Message: If you are planning on keeping your truck for a while I would wait until the original ball joints go before replacing them.

Message: I don't think my truck has the recall, yet. When I called to transfer the warranty ($0.00) they notified me of a washer motor recall, but not the ball joints. The washer motor recall was fixed while it was at the dealer.
While I was talking to the mechanic he said my truck didn't have the ball joint recall,,, but commented that he thinks DC will do the 2wd's after they have 4wd's are finished. I guess they don't want to do a million vehicles at one time ;-)
But, then again this will probably only spread a nasty rumor, so take it for what it's worth,,, nothing more than a comment.
