Subject: Replacement Tires IP: Logged
Message: Currently I have an 04 SLT QC 4X4 V8, my third Dakota. The OE tires suck, especially in the rain. I want desperately upgrade my tires.
On my first Dakota, a 94 SLT CC 4X4 V8, I replaced the Goodyears with BFG AT's. Those tires were great but are expensive.
On my 2nd Dakota, and 01 Sport CC 4X4 V8, I replaced the Goodyears with Dunlops but wasn't that happy with them.
I've been reading some reviews, mostly on tire sites, about the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's. A lot of people said they prefer these over the BFG AT's. The ratings put them ahead of the BFG AT's on every category.
The BFG AT's are about 165.00 ea. installed.
The Bridgestone Revo's are around 125.00 ea. installed.
What do you guys think is the better tire, the BFG AT's or the Bridgestone Revo's? Anyone have the Revo's?

Message: Sorry this is not what you were asking about but the Michelin SUV Cross Terrains I put on mine are great. I do not do any mudding, beach driving or off-roading, my driving is all highway. Compared to the Wrangler RT/S that were on my truck (which I got 100,000 miles out of and for highway driving were not horrible), the Cross Terrains perform much better overall.
2002 QC 4x4 Sport Plus, 4.7L, auto, Patriot Blue, Tire & Handling group, Heavy Duty Service group, Leer cap w/out windows, Mopar Step bars and roof rack, Rhino liner in bed and on step bars, Pace Edwards Power Tailgate lock 3.55 rear, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, all possible fluids are AMSOIL

Message: At $125 each/installed, it's a great price. I was quoted $756 installed. I went with Firestone Destinations instead. 1st- I wanted a good all season highway tire rathwer than a off road type. 2nd - the price - $350 total.

Message: I just stuck a set of REVO's on mine before thanksgiving, and just before the Christmas we got hit with 9 inches of snow, you won't be sorry. They go good in the wet and are better then anything but a true snow tire in the snow, they ride nice and do not hydroplane like the Radial T/A's I used to have. I only have 1 wheel drive peg leg and my neighbor with a 4X4 Jimmy type chevy was stuck in the street on what looked like car tires and my Dak with the REVO's pulled him out.

Message: I've a 2001 QC 4.7L 4x4 with 31x10.5 REVOS on for the past 30,000 mi.
They are great, but I've never had BFG's.
If tire noise is really an issue then the Revo's are better than the BFG's but still not as quiet at a Michelin LTX m/s. But they're not a AT tire.
The Revo's will handle a fair bit of aggressive driving, they handle corners well at speed and I have not had any "cupping" or uneven wear.
I've driven easily in:
5 inches of mud on northers Ontario logging roads.....no problem.
15 inches of snow and towing out others......no problem.
Pulled 3000 lb trailers across construction sites...no problem.
Done 75mph (and up to 90 mph) over long highway stretches ....no problem.
Sometimes I wish they were quieter, and they are not lasting as long as my LTX's did, that's all.

Message: Hammerdak - how did you determine REVOS are quieter than BFG if you've never owned them ? I see you wish your tires were quieter - I've never wished that about my BFGs; they run pretty quiet.

Message: I put 4 Bridgestone at revos P265/75R16's on my '03 4wd quad @ Firestone in Austin, TX for $465.16 on 4/25/04. Granted, it was a once a year Sunday Sale (whatever). They look good, are quiet and handle great (I've got a heavy foot). They fill the wheelwells better than the factory Goodyears but do rub slightly when I back out of my steep driveway with the wheels turned. Minor trimming will cure this. I bought the 4 ply tire with the "S" speed rating for better handling and ride. I'll try them out at the Tx coast sand when I can scare up a new girlfriend to go with me.

Message: I have a 2001 QC 4WD and put a set of BFG ATs (LT265/75-16s) for around $550 (Costco). I didn't notice a significant increase in noise, they are great through the snow, and I'm getting great longevity about them. These tires are very heavy duty and made well. This is the drawback.? If you go for the BFG AT, you need to make sure you want a tire this heavy duty. Because of the tire is larger and MUCH heavier than the R/T S, I loss power and about 1.5 to 2 mpg (after the size correction).
In summary, get a tire that suits your needs. I take the truck off-road one to two times per year and I'm thinking the BFG's may be overkill for me. I wil probably try the S rated REVOs for my next tire.
