Subject: "Tornado" air accelerator, good or bad? IP: Logged
Message: I was thinking of installing one of these in my air passage for better fuel economy. How will it affect any computer readings on my 2001 Dakota and is it really what is says it is? I have the V6,3.9L,automatic. It looks like a beer can someone had an artistic vision, took a razor knife to it, after drinking the beer that was in it,and carved it up,lol.

Message: Isn't the "tornado" effect stopped when the air hits the throttle plate. I can see it working at WOT but how can it work at part throttle or when you're cruising with the throttle barely open.
Yet another gimmick.

Message: Exactly mrman, it doesn't work. It's not pushing air or anything, and the "vortec" effect is not great enough to pass through the throttle boby to the intake manifold. It's just one of those things on the market, that people will buy because they assume it's working without trying to figure out how.
I heard of a guy in the Saguenay area in Quebec, Canada. He's also using the "vortec" for fuel economy, but his system is located at the exhaust manifold. The mpg is supposed to be increased by around 50%. He has a patent for it, and is putting it in your truck for about 800 $(can.).
But hey, what do YOU think ??

Message: A "vortec" for the exhaust? How is that "vortec" supposed to work with cat(s). Ok, let's say the "vortec" spins the exhaust coming out of the engine. What happens when that exhaust hits the cat(In my case 1 cat, others have 2 pre-cats and a cat). Wouldn't the catalyst(a fixed honeycomb type structure) straighten out the exhaust flow, making the exhaust "vortec" useless?
I guess P.T. Barnum was right, there is a sucker born every minute.

Message: I would tend to think that if these tornado deals did any good, they'd be in there from the factory. Especially from DCX with their designing cars like the PT Cruiser and Magnum to fit into the "truck" category for CAFE :)

Oh, wait....this is DCX, forget it.

It was posted here years ago, the tail pipe whistle! Good for at LEAST 30HP! Wwwhhhoooo, wwwhhhhoooo! I laughed when I read Tractors last post too, only with the elec super!
You know actually, sone right, thise things can help a really small amount. Then there is the drain at the alternator eating what gains yhou got to run the thing.
I STILL, liked the one with the leaf blower hooked to the intake!! All kidding aside, someone should try not an elctric one, but a two cycle one! Need an extra few #'s? fire up the gas powered leaf blower on the intake.
Go ahead, shoot away.
