Message: Yeah Todd but you got a 2WD and a manual so you better get 20+ on the highway if my 4X4 5 speed AUTO gets up to 19 highway.
I can't imagine getting 12 to 12.5 when being nice to it. Something's got to be wrong with his or he's not a soft foot like we think he is.
I got 12 MPG the last time I towed to the Dunes. I was happier than sh*t too. My worst was 9 MPG the one trip where I left the OD off the entire time. Never again. This 5-45RFE is tough enough to let it shift occasionally and get better MPG running in OD.
I've got 3.55's and think my MPG may go UP when I drop in the 4.10's just because it will rarely leave OD then.
Heck, in the city I think I get around 14 or so when I'm not racing from the light. Phoenix has a lot of stop and go. Our 2004 Grand Caravan barely does any better than my 4X4 in the city. But I got it up to 24 MPG I think on the highway when I went to Disneyland last month.

Message: My 00 CC 4.7 2WD w/a 3.92 LSD, 5 manual, was always very frugal on gas. It`s average was between 15 and 19 on both, h.way or st, depending on the results that i was wishing, and believe me, I was minded to get 18 mpg on 70% of the time, 20 mpg on 20% and 14 on 10% of time. With 60 k miles, i installed Gibson headers and single side after cat, FIPK2, fastman 68 mm Tb, stage 2 jet chip,(will get M Leash flash), 180* T stat and 3923 plugs. After all these, add 1.5 more mpg on average. At 70 k miles, i added H.O cams and the 02 model H.O intake , replaced all 4 oxig. sensors and ever since, add another 1.5 more mpg. Back in october, i went from cape cod to boston airport on an average of 60 mph. 70 at the bottom ,50 on top of hill, and about 35 miles drifting behind a greyhound bus. When i parked at the airport, my average was 22.9 mpg, and yes, my computer works perfectly. This can be achieved by proper maintenance, lots of money spent on after market parts and most important of all, a lite foot. Sorry for the size

Message: I have noticed the last couple of years that in October here in Colorado, when they switch to the fuel with additives to cut down on pollution, my mileage goes down at least 2mpg. I would like to see the engineering report that shows when you make cars run less efficiently so they have to work harder to achieve the same results and you have to fill up more often, there is less pollution in the air than if you just let things be. BTW, I average about 14.5mpg in the summer.

Those bigger trucks getting better mileage, are the owners telling you this, or are you going by epa estimates? Let me tell ya, yhose guys with full size trucks telling you they are getting better mileage are lying. There is a boatload of BS floating around. Once a guy(an adult, who at least appeared to be sane)told me he was getting 21 MPG with his Silverado 4X4 5.7 Vortec in '95. Um, ok. A 4700 lb truck with the aerodynamics of a pole barn, high rolling resistance all terrain tires etc. That's the same type of person who brags about what his truck cost.
My '03 CC 2wd 4,7 with 5-speed auto and 3.55's has seen 21.23 on a highway trip, but average's about 16 to 17 in mixed driving. Right now, since winter is here, it's getting about 14.5 since the cold keeps the engine at closed loop mixture longer.

Message: Alright so I have done some research on my truck. I've got 3.55 gears, a 4 speed automatic, and I looked under the hood and the owner before me had powertrain control module transmission control module programmed with new software. I got a picture of what it exactly says under the hood. I'm assuming this is the pcm and would this make my gas mileage a little bit worse than other 4.7's?

My 1998 Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel gets 23 on the

My 1995 2wd, Auto, 3.9 V-6, SC Dakota gets a whopping 17

Message: Dr. D:
According to the epa's website, your Dad's '90
5.7 GMC if it was 2wd was rated as follows:
4sp Auto 15 city, 19 Hwy
5sp manual 13 city, 18 Hwy
If it was 4wd:
4sp Auto and 5 speed manual, 13 and 17.
So, if your Dad is getting 24 mpg, he should contact GM. GM will want to test it themselves, and then probably want to bronze plate it and put it their museum. Remember also that epa estimates were less accurate back then. I think your Dad is fibbing.

I can get around 15 mpg on the highway if I drive 70 or so.
and yeah, driving in winter uses more fuel.

Message: Matt4.7CC unless you have ever personally owned a Chevy/GMC, you had better listen to those who have. My last truck was a 98 Chevy Z71 reg. cab short bed with a 350 and a 5 spd trans. I always got at least 18 in town and averaged 20 or better on the highway. I didn't even have to baby it to get those figures. I totally believe Dr. D. Wish I had it back. I'd trade my 01 4.7 4X4 QC for it any day!

I keep the tires properly inflated and keep a nice coat of wax on her. But, the 12.6 MPG that I am getting is absolutely ridiculous. I guess, that it's a good thing that my job pays me pretty well.

Message: I have a 95 CC 4x4 3.9 auto w/ 147k and change and am now getting ~ 19-20 mpg combined city and higway driving. This includes 17 mile highway trip with speeds anywhere from 0-75. This tank is going to get much worse, 2 1/2 hour commute yesterday due to accidents galore. i get 16-18 city and up two 25 on highway. Stock with tonneau cover.
a few months ago i was getting as low as 12 and as high as 15 driving 6 miles at speeds up to 45 with no stop-and-go traffic. I saw the best improvements after doing engine flush. I've got alot of previous posts with more details.
