Subject: NV3500 with 4.10's?

I have an '04 CC 2wd. 4.7 5spd. It currently has a 3.55 limited slip and I am looking to change the ratio. I was wondering if anyone has 4.10's with the NV3500 5spd. because I don't want to end up with a useless first gear.

The differance is minimal. The NV3500 has a 4.01 first gear ratio. Seems pretty low, but with a 30" tire, it's pretty good.

So, lets pick an arbitrary shift point of 3,000 rpm. With the 3.55 gear, you'll be shifting at about 19mph. With a 4.10 gear, you'll be shifting at about 16mph. Only a 3 mph differance. Not enough to worry about for the extra torque application you'll be gaining.

However, at the top end is where it really makes a differance. With the 4.1 gear, you'll be turning 2000rpm at 65 mph. With the 3.55, you be turning 1600rpm at the same speed.

If you normally cruise at 55-60mph, the 4.1 gear is better. But if you normally cruise at 75-80mph, the 3.55 is better. Your call.
