Message: Hi everyone. This may be a dbl post, but i am interested in spending about 7k on a used Dakota and i am curious if you can give me any info of common problems, recalls, pros/cons on trans and engine sizes, etc. Also, would you recommend or not too. Here is an example of what i'm looking for - 1997+

Message: I went to AllData and I'm not going to pay just to view one car, it's better to ask the owners themselves. I did, however, search the free articles for what I could on Dakotas.
Post your opinion/factual information, the more the better! Thank you(s)!

Message: im pretty happy with mine
i have an 04 quad cab with a 3.7 5 spd and 4x
if i could do it over i would get the v8. course i really love the 5spd. its quiet and comfortable and the back seat fits full size people. i have a trailer so the short bed (less than 6 ft) is no concern. i have a campershell so the dogs like that back area fine (so do i. no more noses in the back of the head like the ramcharger)
con's:not enough juice to the v8 but the v8 does not offer a manual.
expensive to lift if i want too. (an i do)
electric T case switch. more fuses to blow.
short bed....for those that care.
whistleling noise in drivers door
oddball 6 lug pattern
pro's:
decent mileage.
roomy 4 door!
5 spd. fun to drive
LSD in rear with a 3.9 gears tows fine, (least my trailer
lotsa parts..... (look at all those dakotas on the road. someone is bound to wreck a white one)
factory tow package!
full frame and a 24 gallon gas tank
torsion bar suspension is cushy

Message: i left out strong rear bumpers.
im embarrased to admit but to date ive hit a honda. backed into someone backing into me. i scratched my rear and she had 1200 bucks worth of damage.
i backed into my front fence that has a steel pole in concrete. i now have to replace a chain link fence anchor pole and no dents or scuffs on the bumper.

Message: 4.7l V8's are available with a 5 speed manual transmission. The problems are: salesmen would rather sell an automatic, to get one with a manual you most likely have to order one and wait, there are not many to be found just sitting around for their buyer.
