 Subject: Check Engine light Comp. Code meaning?

I went by AutoZone and got a reading from their computer on my Dakota. My check engine light had been on and I heard that AutoZone would check your codes for free. the computer they used was a DOB2
They checked it and the reading said this:
P0601
Int Control Module
Memory Check
Sum Error
AutoZone Guy didnt know what that meant and neither do I. Any help is appreciated cause I want to get that Check Engine light OFF!

There may be fault in the computer module !
However - first thing to do is RESET the
computer by disconnecting Neg ( ground ) cable
of battery for about a minute.
May help to turn key on and then back off
while disconnected , then reconnect
and you start off fresh again..
If it comes almost right back on again
you will probably need a new module..
But hopefully not -=- may have been just a glitch....

P0601-PCM INTERNAL CONTROLLER FAILURE
When Monitored: Ignition key on.
Set Condition: Internal checksum for software failed, does not match calculated value.
The Powertrain Control Module is reporting internal errors and must be replaced.

What year is your truck? The factory service manual gives detailed descriptions of various P-codes, but I'm not sure if it's 100% the same from year to year. Post your model year, and maybe someone with an FSM will reply. I have an FSM for 2000, but will have to wait until I get home to look at it.

Almost identical info for 2002.

Check your manual for warranty info. I'm quite sure the warranty on the Powertrain Control Module is 8 years/ 80,000 miles. Emissions related. The manual will say.

Where is this module located? Do you have to have it reprogramed at a shop. Just spent a buttload of money on a transmission, want to save a few bucks! Any help would be appreciated
