 Subject: '98 SLT V6 Mileage???

I have a '98 Dakota SLT, 3.9L V6 in it. I had a dual exhaust system installed about a month ago. Before it, I was getting about 14-15 MPG in the city. Now, I am getting about 14 tops in the city. I wqas told by many people that I should have it checked out...any suggestions on what may be wrong, or what to check? Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks!

The same thing happened to me, i dicovered however that the engine reved faster and i was shifting at a higher rpm than before, my mpg went up 1.5 mpg once i started shifting at 2500 rpm again.

I have an automatic, and it seems like it shifts at a normal time...my RPM's aren't up about 3-4000 barely ever, only when passing ;-)

i have a '94, 4x4, club cab and all, with the 5.2 V8 and an auto tranny, and i avg. 17-18 mpg, city + highway combined... so why are you only getting 14-15 out of a V6?

I have a 98 Dodge dakota sport reg. cab 2wD. 3.9
and can get 390 miles from a tank of gas, so thats
around 19 MPG in D.C. traffic, and it gets better
on the beltway. I have a K&N drop-in filter thats
it. 65000 miles on OD

One more thing, I have 3.5 gears in the axle
and its a auto tranny stock single exhaust. Maybe you have the lower gears in your truck 3.90 or
maybe your IAT is F'ed up
