Subject: How much did you pay? IP: Logged
Message: I now have a 1998 Dakota CC with the little ol' I4 2.5L and am going to upgrade to the V8 for my birthday (love the truck, but has a very small engine). I will have about $10,000 to put towards one, was hopeing to get something with under 60,000-70,000 on the odometer, was wondering if this is reasonable and also what everyone else has paid for their trucks. Please tell year, mileage, trim type and engine size. Thanks everyone!

Message: I have a '95 CC 4x4 SLT auto w/ 3.9. It even has running boards. I bought it in july of '98 with 38k miles for around 11.5k. I still have the same truck sittin at 147k miles now. I even have the same xtang tonneau I bought in august of '98.
Check around at dealers (not just dodge either), i'm sure you can find a good deal around that price range. Look online, carmax, autotrader.com, etc. Do not be afraid to haggle over the price. Mine was marked at 15,990. I found mine at a small local chain of independent dealers in Indiana, cheaper than any of ones I saw at any of the big delers.

Message: Scuba, Got a freshly wrecked 00 4.7 for ya, just kidding ;)
I am in the market for a Dak with 30-40K and it looks like the going price around LV,NV is 14K for a QC Dak 2wd 4.7 auto. I haven't been to any dealers yet, but have been looking on the internet toooo much,,, if you know what I mean. Check out autotrader.com, cars.com, KBB.com, NADA.com and edmunds.com, they should get you in the ball park of what your going to pay. I think Edmunds was the best for targeting the price with thier "True market Value".
What are you looking for QC, CC, 4.7, 5.9, auto, standard 2wd, 4wd?

Message: I got my 2000 QC 4.7 SLT in May of this year for $10k. The only options it did not have were the power seats and sunroof.
That is about 500 under loan value. It is a buyers market out there, so if one dealer/person won't deal, walk away. They'll go your way if they see you are serious.

Message: Never attempt to buy a car the same day and youll usually get a good deal. When i was 17 and bought my mustang cash i told em 2400 out the door they said they couldnt do it. 9am the next morning im driving up there to get the car for 2400.
O and for the love of god dont buy a Used car from a dealer untill they supply you with a carfax. A dealer without a carfax account isnt a dealer you want to deal with.

Message: Scubasteve.
It's really hard to get a meaningful $ figure because vehicles differ in sooo many ways and even an identical vehicle can vary in price from state to state and region to region.
Your best bet is to look at the models of your choice in the "Trader" for your area.
That will be you best gauge for what you should be paying.
What's the point of pricing a Dakota in Ohio if you're in Arizona for instance.
Good luck ...hope you find your true love soon.

Message: My only advice is to be patient. I consider myself master of ebay and was in the market for either a silverado or a ram 1500. Stumbled across a dakota cheaper than sin, although I had to drive down from kansas to texas to pick it up. Paid 5K last spring for a '97 with 100,000 miles, 5.2 V8, extended cab, 4x4. Wasn't perfect, but when your three previous cars barely totaled the CID of the 318, it's worth it. If your patient and clever, do some good research, and have a big enough pair, give ebay a shot, I never planned on buying a dakota but i've loved it so far....so far :-)
