Message: I have fixed the water leak around the door seal. I went close to a year with no leaks, then one day I smelled an odor felt the floor board and it was wet again. I did some more checking and found that with a really hard rain it will not drain fast enough and it comes through the fresh air duct and into the evap./heater core box. So I start putting the controls on max a/c so it will shut the fresh air duct off and the floor has noy gotten wet yet.

Message: Still leaking, after I sealed the passenger door seals with
caulking. Set the a/c to recirculate air mode, but still leaks! This
is ridiculous!! I've read every forum I can find, and tried about
every (notice I said about...takes a lot of time to try some of
them) fix I have read, to no avail. I will keep working on it as I
have time, but now, I am thinking about just drilling a hole in
the floor and using a removable plug to drain the water when it
rains. Also thinking about removing the carpet and painting the
floors with that do-it-yourself Rhino lining type stuff to get rid
of the smell. Bottom line is this: as much as I like this '93
Dakota, I will NEVER buy another Chrysler product because of
this. They just have too much competition to put up with this...

Message: Understand -- things can really PO people. Naturally you buy what you want and YES there are alot of good cars out there that don't have water leaks. But alot of them do -- My 1989 Bronco II leaked on the rear hatch, and my wife's 1994 Mitsubishi.
My 2001 Dakota -- staying dry. There's a luck of the draw involved but it is true the Dodge trucks have been plagued by this problem.

Message: The dealer finally found the source of the leak
in my 2002 Dakota. It has something to do
with air vents behind the rear seat. I haven't
had a chance to look at it yet and didn't even
know there were vents back there. I have had
the truck in many times, every time it has
come back fixed according to the shop. Now to
really fix it will take a $19 part and many, many
hours. The whole cab has to be moved
foward.

Message: Just purchased a 97 Dakota Club Cab and the second day I owned it it rained and the passenger side floor had at least 3 inches of water, soaked the carpet all along the door jam and towards the rear passenger area. Checked everything that was suggested on this site and nothing, no leaks. Rained again 2 days later, same thing, different day, more water but only on the passenger side floor. Took it to a body shop and took the passenger side interior out near the rear side window and back sliding window and there it was........ that back window on the passenger side wasn't sealing at the top or bottom very well. And this was the factory window. Put a garden hose up to it and it just sprayed thru. You could never tell it was this until the interior side panels, rear panel and carpet was removed and pulled back. The water was leaking from the rear corner, along the door jam and seal and into the passenger floor area making it seem as if it were coming from up front........Hope this will help some of you.
By the way, plan on replacing the window as Dodge is the only one the glass company said that you can't remove the rear window and reseal it without breaking it............ Another good Dodge idea I suppose.

Message: I bought a 97 Dodge Dakota Sport in 2001 and for the most part it's been pretty good to me. Just recently since this spring when it started raining I have been finding water on the driver's and passenger's floor area, up to an inch or so. I've read over the entries so far and they are seem to deal with the door seals, I've looked and them and they appear fine. Is there a way water can get it through the front vent system? Any help would be great! Thanks

Message: My '92 leaked in around the door jamb's pin switch on the driver's side, then past the kickpad and filled up the driver's footwell. Don't know if your vintage has this switch. I never would have believed that so much water could get in there, but it's been dry since I replaced the switch and sealed around it - 6 months.
