will a box off a 87 dakota be the same as a 93. i know they are different generations but i;, pretty sure they are the same just need to make sure.

Yes. The GenI and GenII trucks are identical from the cab back. Minor changes to the tailgate in appearance only. Dimensions are the same. If you are looking at a tool box, you should have no problems.
