Subject: Backfire through intake and timing IP: Logged
Message: 99 Dakota 5.2 that has developed a backfire through the intake at random times. Always under slight load, and low RPM's. If I step on the throttle it will come out of it. No codes shown on the computer. I changed the Plugs (looked good) cap, rotor and wires. I brought it to two dealerships. The first one just drove around with their computer hooked to it and charged me 300$ and told me we know there is a problem but not sure what it is. I went to another dealer and they have cleaned the fuel rail and injectors and replaced the crank sensor, checked the TPS etc. Bill was for $700 and still no resolve. They are at a loss. There does not seem to be a plenum leak. So any idea's? PCV is clear.
Next is can someone explain to me how the computer controls timing on these? Does the plugs fire on every revolution wasting a fire? If it backfires through the intake the intake valve would have to be open so the timing would have to be WAY off right?
