Subject: Tranny service IP: Logged
Message: I am coming up on 50,000 miles on my 2000 Dak, 3.9L auto. In my service manual, it mentions having the transmission bands adjusted when the fluid is changed. Does anyone know if this is something I can do myself, or should I just go get raped for money by the dealer? I am a fair mechanic, but my knowledge of auto trannys is weak, especially on the newer stuff. Does the adjustment require special tools, and if not, where is the adjustment performed and what are the specs for adjusting, and how is the adjustment measured??? I imagine this is a screw adjustment of some kind, but I am not certain.
If anyone has a service manual with this procedure, I would certainly barter for a scanned copy or a photocopy of the procedure.
Thanks,
Shawn

Message: The bands are a pain in the ass to adjust if you have never done it before... i pain 89.00 at a dealership to have the fluid changed and the bands adjusted... i think it was worth it .....

Message: I'm with the other guy. Take it to the dealer for that. It's cheap compaired to $2,000.00 for a new tranny.I also don't take it to these 10 min. lube and tune guys. They put the wrong kind of fluid in my Eagle and it shifted bad till I got the fluid changed. Chrylser uses a different fluid than Ford or GM. At least they use to.Make sure you change it when the books says so also.
