Subject: Cat Converter problem? IP: Logged
Message: Had a problem with my 92 3.9 and I thought it was the thermostat. Swaped the 195 out for a 180 and now the temp is fine, but I still get the problem. I drive maybe 15-20 mins at highway speed (65-70 MPH)and the truck loses power...Like I'm dragging an anchor. I need to put the pedal to the floor to get mild acceleration, and when I take my foot off the gas, it feels as though I'm braking. Even shift into N (it's a 5 speed manual) it still just immediatley deccelarates. not mildly either- it totally begins to wind down like I'm suddenly dragging a 3 ton boulder! Someone suggested maybe a cat problem. Any thoughts? Thanks! -Dan

Message: Sure does sound like the cat, Dan T.
Don't let it go too long, you may burn exhaust
valves.
