Subject: Bizare Annoying Problem IP: Logged
Message: Did a full tune-up(plugs, cap, rotor, air filter, oil, flushed rad.) on my truck last weekend, '96 club cab sport, 3.9 auto tranny, MarkIII conversion. Now I'm getting a really weird problem, when the truck shuts down, about 5 seconds or so after putting the Key in the off position from run (doesn't matter if the truck was started or the key was just set in run), I get an audible click and the Cruise Control Indicator light in the steering wheel flashes once. Not sure if the click is in the dash or the engine bay, haven't been able to pinpoint it yet. I've checked and re-checked the vacum hoses and electrical conections into and out of the throttle body that I may have bumbed doing the distributor but they all seemed OK. The cruise control seems to be working OK also. Tried disconnecting the battery to clear the computer and this didn't help either. Thanks for any help or ideas.
After a week it's still clicking and flashing, but doesn't seem to be affecting anything. Just Annoying. A Friend who works for SLP suggested having the PCM reflashed. Anyone think this would actually fix the problem.

Message: Drew, I'd do the key on and off thing to see if
any error codes are displayed. You can also take
it to Advance Auto Parts and maybe others and
they can download any error codes it might have.
Worth a try before you go any further.
To me it sounds like a back feed program that
discharges after the key is off. Saying that, did
you by chance install anything like a large
speaker amp or radio lately? If so, try turning
it/them off before you turn your key off and see
if the problem went away.
Just my two cents worth.. Please let us know what
you find out..

Message: No the last major electrical thing I did was the radio head unit but that was over 2 years ago (no amps or anything like that in the truck). It could be possible that when I changed the wire from the coil to the distributer it sent a charge through the system. What is the 'key dance' sequence? I'll give that a try.

Message: Does not seem like the kind of problem that will set a fault code in the PCM. You probably will not get any codes when you try to read it.

Message: The only code I got was a '12' for the battery disconnect, expected that one. Any ideas on what might be holding a charge that would discharge through the speed control system after shutdown?
