I have a 97 dodge dakota ext cab 4x4 v6 with the stock alarm on it. My remote seems to have failed and now I cant unlock the truck. So when I use the key to unlock it, the alarm goes off and I can start the truck! WTF! Apparently I have to use the remote to get in but the damn things broken.

Is there some special way to get in with just the key? Or do I have to go to the dealer and get a new remot?

Does your remote need a new battery?

On mine, I twist the key very deliberately to avoid setting off the alarm.(I have unplugged the horn.) To be certain, I turn the key to the locked position before I turn it to the unlocked. That does the job.
Now, what I would like to learn, is how to bypass the whole silly thing so I can hook my horn back up.

I can use my key in the doorlock with the factory alarm set without it going off, so there has got to be something wrong there sonny. Mine is a 97 CC SLT
