what would be the proper way to take the emblems off the dodge dakota? Not the Ram but the writing on the door that says "Dakota 5.9 R/T". without scratching the paint?

Adhesive Remove (removes the wax too) Plus a PLASTIC scraper not a razor blade. Keep it constnatly wet as to not scratch. Or just use a hairdryer and slowly peel away

A hair dryer can help to loosen them. If they've been on for some time, there can be some ghosting (paint behind the decals hasn't been faded like the rest).

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Be sure to hold the hairdryer/heatgun at a 45 degree angle to the surface to prevent ruining the element. WD-40 is a safe glue remover.
