Hi everone has a right to their own opinions without being critisized. I just want to know how many dakota owners like the looks of the new 05. I like the looks so that starts the thread with one vote for the 05. This will give us a good idea of how many people will buy these trucks based on looks and not performance. Trust me I test drove a new 05 Quad cab with the high output 4.7 and it performs nicely and this one was a full time 4x4 and it was still very quick on acceleration. imagine what the 6 speed will be like!!

I like the '05, but the '04 and earlier years still have my vote. After driving the '05, the only thing that kept running through my head was that the seats felt too much like an import....hard as a rock.

The '05 is not ugly to me but I do prefer the styling of the 97-04 Dakotas more. I think they (97-04) are one of the most beautifully styled trucks ever. I think thats the 05's problem. It has some very big shoes to fill styling wise. Now comparing the '05 Dak to the Silverado, Frontier, Tacoma or the Tundra the '05 Dak wins.

i've been driving a brand new(33 miles on it when i got in it) 05 QC SLT 4.7 rental for the past 3 days and personally i would not want one for the following reasons:
Wannabe Chevy taillights
Rock hard seats
mileage(3/4's of a tank and only 130 miles!)
Cheapy looking interior(faux wood panel right in the middle of the dash?)
wussy sounding exhaust (whoooosh)
puny o/s rearview mirrors
don't get me wrong it does have it's pluses:
4.7 w/3.55 LSD pulls pretty good until about 70 then it kinda falls off(nothing a few a/m parts couldn't fix)
totally new from the ground up suspension
nice looking 5 spoke wheels
body color bumpers
that's my .04!

On paper the '05 Dakota looks pretty good. From performance to frame and suspension construction it all looks pretty good. Unfortunately, I don't care for the looks and it has very uncomfortable seats! I felt the front seat area is smaller than in my '00. Sitting in the drivers seat reminds me of my 96 Cherokee in that the windshield is small and in your face. The fit/finish and choice of materials in the '05 Dakota interior is very poor in comparison to my '00(which is already poor in comparison to my friends '04 Sierra). On top of that I'm not hearing very good things about the '05 Dakota already. It seems that it is carrying on the tradition of poor DC quality and reliabilty.

3 weeks ago I visited my local dealership to buy an 05 Quad Cab 4x4 V8. But, I got the 04 instead. Not just because of the killer $4500.00 rebate but because I thought the new ones are ugly. I've had a 94, 98 and now an 04. The 05 is definately not in the same leaugue looks wise.
When I went back to pick up my tags just this past Monday they had 5 04's on the lot and 5 05's. I asked where they got the other 04's since there was only one other one when I bought mine. They said most people coming in liked the 04 better so they bought as many as they could from other dealerships. They had contracts on all but one of them.

actually it should be named "DAKRANGO" not "DAKOTA". all they need to do is round off all the sharp angles a little.

I like it a lot. I've always been a fan of the edgier type styling though (most cars from the late '90s look like melted blobs to me.) The '97-04 is pretty good looking yet, but it's aging. Taking that truck out of the picture and comparing only to the other compact/midsize trucks I think the Dakota's toward the top. And then there's the V8, the good feeling suspension, and the truly "midsize" capabilities (not quite fullsize level but head and shoulders past most of the similar-size vehicles) that make the Dakota such a good package. So I feel happy about having ordered an '05 Laramie V8 4x4 Club Cab :)

i'm going to hang on to my '03 for as long as i can. i hate the way the front end looks on the new dakota. just my opinion. but if it were a regular cab package with it, then i could deal with the front and it would probably grow on me. i like it if i look at it straight from the front, but from the sides and at an angle i don't. the back end looks pretty good though, almost like a small Ram if you look at it straight from the back. i think if i ever got another truck anytime soon, it would be a Hemi Ram 1500.

Freakin Butt Ugly!
My neighbor has an 05 QC 4x4 and I have an 01 QC 4x4. Mine is a babe-magnet compared to his. I guess the 31" Procomp X-terrains on AE589's help mine out a bit, but I tend to think the 05's "edgy" lines and funky grill in the front detract from its appeal. I like smooth, sleek vehicles...they remind me of smooth, sleek women...hehe.

I'm not that crazy about the new styling but it is growing on me. I definatly prefer the 97-04 body style. I like the looks of the interior but as others have mentioned the feel of it is not the best. This is the first year of this body style, hopefully they can work on the seats a little.

I vote NO WAY for the 2005 Dakota. Why? The looks
I can get use to. The "NO WAY" is for, I will NOT
buy another Dakota untill DC's engineers take care
of ALL (not some) the problems that Dakota have
been stuck with for YEARS!
They have had PLENTY of time to fix ALL their
problems.
If all the auto makers have gone to no greasable
fittings, I think it's time to begin to buy
restored cars and trucks. Leave the new JUNK at
the stealerships.
