UGLY Piece of SH!T, needs a recall and back to the drawing board. At least based it off this old style, so when people look at it, it will show the old with the new, sorta like what they did with the new stang, but I still like the orginal 67.

I held off buying a Dak until the 05's came out,
on the off-chance the engineering problems would
be sorted out and the bodywork would be left
alone.
Instead, it's the bodywork that was altered (for
worse) and the engineering problems were kept
the same.
It looks like they slammed a piece of junk
together real quick after Marketing hollered
bloody murder that a Mitsubishi would replace
the Dak. Now they have a butt-ugly body, a
goofy cabin, and the same old lousy balljoints
bolted to a 4.7 that is sort of OK. Thank god I
waited until '05, though. That new Tacoma is
one sweet machine.

I don't know what they were thinking, the new look is ugly! ugly! ugly! Even the rams are starting to look more appealing to me, and I never did like the big opening on the grill of the RAM.
04's and below are the best looking trucks hands down. I have an '01 and love the look. Why is it so hard for engineers to get opinions from dakota buyers like ones on this forum? It's common sense and all it would take is posting questions on this forum. The new look is ugly. If I was in the market I wouldn't go for an '05 but I'd try to get an '04.

FUGLY, none of them are selling around me and i could understand why. why mess with a good thing and screw it up. they should have just put the hemi in the old style and there sales would have skyrocketed

I like it but I wouldn't buy one right away. I'll give this one 5 years and then I think I'll look for a used one. I just don't trust DC's engineering capability.
My 97 Dakota (first year for the Gen3) had a long list of problems from flaking paint to ball joints to a tranfer case that exploded. I loved that truck and it broke my heart to part with it but it was in the shop more than it was on the road.
My 01 is on it's second set of front uppers and those are clunking. I dunno. If the new Dakota had been designed by Toyota I would buy one right away.

You just took the words right out of my mouth. Not only does it look like a wana be Silverado in the rear and a wana be F-150 up front. Whats with that cheep interior??? Also check out what 4wheeler stated about the Off-road Challenged Dakota.
Engine over heated (Good if you need to get lost out in alaska and need to raise the hood to get to get warm. Bad for any type of 4wheeling.
Not to mention it got hung up on every rock due to sorry @ss ground cleance and approch angles.
But there alway Power Wagon.. That is if you want to shell out 40 grand.

For some strange reason the dealer near me is stocking only V6 4speeds in the Quad Cab, V8s only in reg andclub cab. Makes no sense to me.

I have one and I love it. It is a 4.7 quad with 4x4 392 gears+trac-lock with the larger tires and 5spd auto.The truck rides and handles MUCH BETTER than my 2000 4x2 4.7 ever did. It is a bad ass truck with great lines with a bad ass look.I never had any trouble with my 2000 Dakota.

FUGLY... looks like they forgot to smooth out the edges on the play-dough model, absolutely horrible.. and the V8 4x4s are the exact same height as 2wd 4 banger.. no thank you.. i will stick with my 97 for now, and wait a year till dodge comes out with something better once they realize just how bad they fuqed up with that body style

05; What were they thinking? Keep the tires and trash the rest.
If DC was serious about selling trucks they would of stuffed a hemi w/six speed into the 04 DAK. 2WD could have been R/T-8 and 4WD the new power wagon. I just wish DC had not built the 4.7 engine bullet proof. Then I would have a reason to do an engine swap.

The 05's are not to bad...but they just can't compare to the sexy 97-04's.
Give DC some time to refine the look, smooth the lines, add some nice chrome 20's, use some of that soft material for the interior, AND PLEASE GIVE ME BACK ALL THE GUAGES IN THE DASH. TRUCK DRIVERS LIKE TO SEE ALL THE GAUGES.
Then maybe the '05+ will look as sexy as the 97-04's
