 Subject: Rear Wheel 2000 Dakota And Ball Joints

Heard today that the govt wants Chrysler to recall Durangos and Dakotas (however, 4x4 models). I drive a 2000 rear wheel Dakota. At around 50,000kms, I could hear a noise coming from the front end, later at around 80,000, I was told it was the ball joints. I'm still driving with it as I do not have the money to fix it. How come the rear wheel Dakota's will not be recalled? Didn't they use the same ball joints? Please help. Thanks.

I haven't read that it's just 4X4. Where is that coming from?
None of the news stories are saying that, just that it's models with ball joints from the Indiana supplier...
I think all Dakotas/Durangos with the defective ball joints are to be recalled...

Hey Bob, when you read cnn, msnbc, etc., they mention Durangos and Dakotas. However, when you read cbsnews, they specifically state Dakotas with 4 wheel drive. I am hoping that I hear my 2wd Dakota is being recalled on Monday.

Doesn't the 4 wheel drive and the 2 wheel drive take the exact same upper ball joint? The Moog catalog shows the exact same part # for 2 and 4 wheel drives 2000-2004. If that is the case why doesn't the possible recall cover all Dakotas and Durangos?

I forgot to mention that I almost wrapped myself around a cement shoulder when my rear tire blew out on my almost new Dodge Dakota. Was told that they were "Performance Tires". They dont last long. I will never buy Chrysler again.

We'll, you should expect that when you complain you'll never buy Chrysler again after complaining about your tires. Sounds like your ball joint problems will be solved - no recall for 2WD, but warranty is extended 10years/100,000 miles on upper ball joints. Good luck on your next purchase, all brands have problems.
