Message: 2 totally different trucks, they share very few if any parts on the chassis and none of the body parts are interchangable, only some drive train components carry over to the new ones.

Message: The '05 weighs 150 pounds more than the '04 QC. Either way, 4500+ pounds empty is a heck of load for a V-6. Opt for the 4.7 V-8.

Message: My vote goes to the 05 whats 150 Ibs to you. At least the ball joint problem is fixed. theres nothing wrong with the Engine from what I have seen the 4.7l is better than the 5.9. It only lacks 25 foot pound off the 5.9. What it all comes down to is whether you approve of the looks of the 05. And many don't. I like the looks i didn't used to. But thats because I love dakotas and im a very skeptical person. But the 2005 Dakota is mechanically superior to the 04. And thats really all you need. You guys can go ahead and keep your 97 to 04 and have fun replacing the ball joints and resurfacing your rotors every 65,000 while I'm cruising in my 05. Long live the DODGE DAKOTA. Im just glad they didn't stop making the dakota that would have been a big bummer.

Message: Black QC Sport:
You had better find a nice piece of oak to knock on. You have a newly designed vehicle that hasn't even been out long enough to find out what the bugs are going to be. Time will tell. And do you think DC is going to act any faster on what problems that may occur than they did with the Gen III's? Your future problems might be corrected in 2012 if your lucky.

Message: Is the meme of 1st year models always being bad really true any more? I can't recall hearing anything serious about other recent DCX truck releases like Ram, Durango, and Liberty. As an off road machinery product design engineer I know full well that new product can bring in challenges that couldn't be anticipated -- but can't it also be true that new models are designed with improvements over the previous design in mind, so that out of the gate some things are dealt with?
Back to the original poster's question: I say try em both and pick the one you like more. I made the same comparison between 04 and 05 v8 clubcab 4x4s. It was a tough call but I picked the 05 on the basis of it seeming to me to be the better design.
