I know that there have been a lot of posts on ball joints in the past. As I looked through them, it seems that the '97s don't go out as fast as the '98+. Am I correct in this? Or are they all the same? Also, the dealor told me that my lowers are bad. I'm obviously not going to have them do it, I'm a broke college student... Anyway, should I fix my uppers at the same time? Thanks, Aaron

I did all my ball joints - saved bo-ku $$$ doing
it. All 4 were shot. The lowers are like $60-$68
each (moog) & the uppers are like $33 each (moog).
You'll need the tool to remove the lowers - $100
rental from the Zone. Looks like a huge C-clamp.

BTW, is it 4x4 or 2wd? I got the 4x4.

You don't need the tool with a 2WD, all four are riveted in place. Grinder, punch, and maybe a drill are necessary.

Another advantage to doing all four at once is you only need to get the alignment checked/adjusted once. Moog part numbers for your 2wd '97 are K7242 (uppers) and K7241 (lowers). Rockauto.com has a pretty good price, a little over $40 each.

Where are you located Aaron? Maybe we can get an install party together. I'm getting ready to do ball joints on my 2wd Quad Cab. I'm in Norfolk VA area.

I'm in central Indiana. But if dodge does do an upper recall, then I'm not going to worry about buying the uppers. I dunno. It probably won't cover my truck anyway. Thanks for the replys everyone, Aaron
