Lets get the ball rolling here. Anyone that has replaced their ball joints needs to file a complaint with NHTSA. Lets pummel them with incident reports.

Thanks for that info Jimmer. I saved that web site
and plan on using it if needed. Today 12/07/04
the stealership is replacing my left upper ball
joint under warranty. I have a 02 with 25,700 and
the 3/36 warranty will be run out in April of 05.

I really didn't want to have DC's junk ball joint
replaced with more DC's junk but I figure this
time around it's free. Next time I'll use
greasable ones.

You should file the report now. 35000 miles is to quick. It is not unreasonable to expect DC to use parts that will last.

Your complaint would be justified whether you pay for the repair or it's done under warranty.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link. I added my 00 RC RT to the list. Replaced the factory junk with Moog from RockAuto @17620 miles. What a pain!! The truck overall is great. It just goes to show the design engineer for these junk parts needs to be taken to a garage and get his hands dirty fixing what he designed!!

I have an 03DakQC with about 30,000 miles on it and am deeply concerned about my ball joints going out... so what's the most common symptoms these things have before they go? Right now my front end seems fine but I was just wondering. I have looked at these front ends and they are absolute garbage compared to my old 98ChevZR2...

Usually you will hear clattering, clicking, clunking or popping in the suspension.

I started hearing mine when I turned the wheel all the way to lock as I rolled forward slowly. Also if you turn the wheel all the way to lock you might feel the front end hop. They have to be really bad to do this.

Sometimes if it is bad enough the truck will wander around the road. Final stage is that the wheel will fall off ;)

RadioMan,

I had my passenger side upper ball joint replaced already. Only 6300 miles so far. It would not mind if the others go bad before warranty expires. Sure, like you said, they'll just be putting in the same crap that they took out. However, at least they'll be doing the hard part of drilling out the rivets. I'm pretty sure that the new policy is that they don't replace the entire control arm anymore... my new ones got drilled out and bolted in.
Anyway, when the warranty is up, Moogs are going in!
