Subject: dodge dakota timing chain? IP: Logged
Message: I went to start my dodge and it was chugging bad then quit, try to start it again and all i can hear is the starter turning the engine fan and belts is turning. Did the timing chain break? I have had problems with the timing chain before and it been nocking (bearing) since I bought it.
95 v6 sport ext cab.

Message: I the all knowing swammi can see all and I can see that you broke your ___________ just by reading your question over the internet. With as little info that you gave only a moron would try to diagnose it without actually lookig at it. chugging bad and then quitting could be fuel pump failed , out of gas, coil died, battery died, computer died, transmission locked up, distributer gear or any other part of it died, bad starting relay for fuel pump or bad running relay, fuel pump fuse, or any one of a hundred other things. Did anyone stuff a potatoe up your tail pipe?

Message: sorry my boss got mad, to get to your original question if the
timing chain broke you can do this to check
remove the distributor cap
have someone crank the engine (on and off quickly)
did the rotor turn ?
if it did then your timing chain is not broken
if it did not then it is broken, put a nice double roller in there
