Message: 2000 4.7L V8. It can barely make it to 5k rpm with the gas mashed to the floor in D. In N it barely makes it to 5500. What gives? bad cat? any ideas??

Message: sounds like maybe a plugged cat. does it make a rattling sound as well? I heard that the cat can make a rattling sound when it goes bad, or it can just plain plug up. if you have less than 80K on the truck, I think there is a federal emissions warranty that will cover replacing your converter.
just my .02

Message: Damn, definitely a problem of some sort. Fuel delivery problem maybe? My 4.7 jumps to 6 thousand rpm in a heart beat when I floor it.

Message: The cat use to rattle, but that was quite a while ago.
I'd like to go to the dealer but I guarantee they'll say my mods caused the cat to fail.

Message: ditto eddy. My truck screams to 6200 and smacks the rev limiter if I manually hold a gear :-)
The dealer would probably have a COW beause of your mods.. it may also be a fuel delivery problem, but I would check the CAT first. how many miles do you have on your truck? If you suspect the cat you can just hack it out for a day, and put a pipe in it's place (keep it like that long enough to see if that helps the problem) and if that helps, you can buy a high flow cat.... since you said the cat rattled a while ago, that it most likely what is causing the problem..
Hope I helped.

Message: Mine has a lower rev limiter in park, like a little over 3k. It sucks.
Other than that it too hits the 6k rev limiter all the time when I hold it in gear.
Maybe you got just a tank of bad gas???
That CAN happen. It would be great if that is all it is.

Message: It was the cat. Got a new one today. Not a high flow unit but way better than the stock POS. That deep rumble is back and the motor screams to the rev limiter. Kick-ass!!!
