I have a 98 dodge and i just replaced a 6 year old battery but now the voltmeter will read 12 then i accelerate and there is a squeek for about 15 seconds and then the charge goes through and then reads 14 and a half some times when i stop it goes back to 12 then continues the sqeeking when i accelerate the belt is fine thanks for the help

The squeeling noise is saying the belt is slipping. Check it for play as it could be too loose or it could be the alternator packing it in.
