Subject: Cruise control annoyance; elec. problem IP: Logged
Message: Hello -
My cruise control seems to like to shut itself off at times, and it did it again last night. I have never had it do this while it was set, but when I have it on so that the lamp is illuminated, and I am setting and then braking and such, it will turn itself off. I can not turn it back on, until I shut the truck off and restart it. When I restart, it always "fixes" the problem and I can turn the cruise on again.
Last night I pulled over when the cruise was dead, and I plugged in my code scanner. The only problem is that the scanner forces me to turn the truck off and then back on before it will read. So, of course, the cruise works again and I get no stored code(s).
Is there a common cause for this? It seems to crap out if I have been using the brakes a lot. I like to give a few taps before coming to a stop to wake people up behind me, (I ride a lot of miles per year on a MC so it's a habit). I'm sure there's a relay that senses the brake to cancel the setting and stop the throttle, maybe it is wearing out?
Thanks in advance for some good suggestions!

Message: No clue what might be wrong with your cruise but the scanner can be plugged in and left in while you drive > Doubt your going to get a code cause your not getting one after motor is shut off and restarted > You have to remove the codes with your scanner or by disconnecting your battery>

Message: Mine has done this befoore as well. Not very often, but it has done it. I just chalked it up to a glitch that happens with computers sometimes.

Message: My code scanner is my SuperChips Microtuner and I know it forces me to cycle the key before it will read, but I didn't try leaving it on and starting the truck. I'll have to read the book and/or try it; thanks for the idea.
I won't get too worked up about it until the "glitch" happens more often.
Thanks, guys!
