Subject: Rear end Noise and temp IP: Logged
Message: My 99 Dak V-8 5 speed with 3.92 lsd has 99,000 miles on it, the rear end went under warantee at 50,000, now its making a whining noise again 20-40mph), the diferential feels really warm (I guess you could call it hot)Did I hurt anything by driving it 80 miles like this? My mechanic says the pinion bearings are common failure, has anyone else had this problem

Message: You really should change your differential fluid a little more often. I change mine like every 25K miles. I would start by just changing the fluid and making sure to add in some friction modifier with the new fluid. If you buy Amsoil or Royal Purple, it shouldn't require friction modifier as they already have it formulated in. Just use a good gear oil with about a 75W-90 weight or slightly higher.

Message: We had a customer with the same problem earlier this afternoon. After close inspection, we found remnants of his problem. When we confronted him with the evidence, he admitted he had eaten a large bowl of chile with beans and he was pretty gassy. Some Gas-X and a Tums cleared it right up.

Message: I had my Mechanic look at it, he could not find anything wrong, pinion bearing OK, ring and pinion gears ok, I changed the transfer and Manual transmission fluid, still makes the noise
