Subject: Anyone pulled a dash lately?? - Help IP: Logged
Message: Just got my 2000 quad back from the shop. They pulled the dash to replace both a leaking a/c condenser and heater core. In the rush to put everything back together, my mechanic forgot to re-connect the front speakers, and can't remember where the plugs were. Anyone know off-hand where that connection(s) is? Any chance it can be reached without pulling the whole dash apart again? I'm assuming it must be against the firewall somewhere before the split out to the doors.

Message: Logically, there are only two connections on the speaker wire.
A) The terminal end (at the speaker), typically using a factory "harness" into the speakers two prongs. Located inside the front door panels, on the back of the speakers.
B) At the source end, inside the dash - behind the radio. Those wires are typically integrated into the entire radio wiring harness.
Therefore, if JUST your fronts weren't working, i would suspect you have a disconnection at the speaker end. If it was at the radio end, the entire radio would be malfunctioning (or if it's a split harness, both sets of speakers would be dead at the minimum).

Message: Like Skylar said, there are two places to check. One being your connections at the speaker, the other being behind your dash at your radio. Since I am going to assume they worked prior to them working on your truck, you can rule out the connections at your speakers. I would definately suggest pulling the dash off and checking the connections. Depending on whether you have a factory/aftermarket cd/tape player will affect how it connects at the back. Could be one wire harness wasn't snapped in all the way. Two other things you should check: Make sure your radio hasn't got the front speakers turned off i.e. the fade/balance buttons on your radio. Secondly, if you have the Infiniti Stereo Upgrade, you may want to check your PRE-amp which should be located in the passenger side kickpanel up front. Wires could be unplugged or ripped. It's merely MY opinion and suggestion.

Message: Good call - I forgot about the premium audio option. You would think 5 years of Mobile Audio at Best Buy would engrave that in my mind... how quickly we forget though. =)
Either way, i'm afraid he's going to have to pull the entire dash - exactly what he wasn't looking to do. Sorry to break the news to you Kevin.

Message: Before you do anything, maybe just maybe the fader got bumped on the front of the radio? Assuming it's a stock type that has a knob to move the fader from front to rear?
