I've seen tons of commercials for the new 05 Dakotas, but i've yet to see one driving down the road. I've seen 05 Cheerokees, and Liberties, and other new realeases, but no 05 Dakotas! Are they not selling well at all? Any sales figures yet?

I've only seen one on the road and I must say why are you surprised? They're ugly as a hell. I'm so glad I bought my 04.

The dealer is chalk full of them here but they're not moving at all.

Same here in the DElaware COunty/ Philadelphia area. I have yet to see an 05 on the road. Funny cause normally with that 'first on the block to have one' syndrome that comes from a newly designed or re-designed vehicle you'd think you would have started seeing alot of them a couple months ago.

around here the only '05's i am seeing a lot of are the GM Colorado/Canyon. and i mean a lot! no '05 dak's.

The 1997 Dodge Dakotas were not an immediate hit either. BUT, I agree, '05 Daks are butt ugly.

Agreed, around here I see a buttload of CAnyons and Colorados too. Could it be gas prices are actually starting to affect what people choose as they replace vehicles?

Easy boys. DC stock lots here in the Detroit Area are completely bursting with New Dakotas. I've seen quite a few on the road, almost as many as Canyon/Colorados.
The problem is that with any new design the dealerships are having troubles moving the last of the 2004's. Once they shift the 04's off the lots the 05's will ship out. That is why you can get damn near $4500 cash back at dealerships locally in Detroit for 2004 Daks.
Out with the old, in with the new, but not before every last 04 leaves the door.

well, i know i'll get flamed for this but, i much rather the look of a Colorado/Canyon than the '05 dak. when the first gen III's came out i fell in love with the look on the spot. i just can't get this new '05 look.

I pulled up along a 2005 on my morning commute today. The rear end looks great, I think the painted bumpers are a huge improvement over the matte gray fascia. I think the front end is sharp and the headlights are nice. The grille is brawny and mean looking. But the sides look like a fricken Nissan Titan!!! Rough cut lines, protruding fenders that look like they are swelled up from a bruise or something. I have to agree that there probably won't ever be another Dakota as sexy as the Gen3.
The Canyon is a sharp truck, its just a shame that it has a Isuzu engine, and its overpriced by about $4000. No V8, not even a V6!!!! GM is going to die on the vine with that approach to vehicle production. Guess they had no choice but to shove a I-5 in that truck to make up for all those Gas Guzzling Escalades and Suburbans.

Drive buy dodge city/warren truck assembly and you'll see all of them!

I see a bunch at the Dodge dealerships around here(and there is quite a few of them!)in the Albany, NY area, but like everyone else not many on the road. My guess is that after a test drive who would want it? I know that's a harsh comment, but the '05 has to be THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE truck I've ever sat in. Second ONLY to my x-wifes Subaru Forester! Owning a '00 and enjoying the ergonomics of my interior and then getting into an '05 is a MAJOR disappointment. The '05 reminds me of my 96 Cherokee...small in your face windshield, hard seats, cramped interior etc. A major step backwards for Dodge.

*If* I was to buy a 2005 Dakota I wouldn't be in a hurry to get one. I would want either a 4.7 with 6spd manual, or the 4.7 HO ( with forced 545RFE). Neither are available until sometime next year according to the salespeaople I have spoken with.
Maybe that's why there are not a lot yet. The ones people really want aren't being built yet.
Keeping my '02 QC until it falls apart or it breaks my bank.

Yeah the dealer near me only has a fairly small allotment but all the Quad Cab o04s on his lot right now are strictly 3.7 V6/4 speed auto. I think he has a couple of lighter club cabs that are 4.7 V8. Doesn't make much sense to me.

My friend bought the 05 dakota. I don't like it. I thought it was uncomfortable to ride in compared to my 02. He has had it back to the dealer 3 times in the last 2 months, for minor repairs, squeeky front end, stalled at stoplights, and the blinkers quit working. But all is supposidly fixed now and he his happy.

You think the new Geartraq Transmission are going to be better than the old ones. I realize that the gear ratios are shorter for better performance in towing. To bad its not a option for the H.O 4.7.

I am genuinely surprised about the complaints about the interior. Seein all the new pics it looks pretty high class compared to the Gen 3 and I thought that was its one saving grace.

The Gen III Daks are classic beauties! It’s the only reason I bought a truck at all. I knew that ’04 was my last chance to own a new one. I can’t look at a Gen III Dak without smiling.
