Subject: durango ?'s IP: Logged
Message: I'm thinking about going back to a durango, I used to own one before I bought my dakota. It had the 5.9ltr and my gas mileage sucked, on average I got about 12mpg. Thats a little to low for me. this question is for the durango owners that have a 4.7ltr engine. How's your gas mileage? City? highway?
I need more room then my dakota offers and a durango is one of the options. I don't plan to pull much weight, or hual much so I won't be needing the larger engine. Oh this is going to probably be a 01-02 durango 4x4. Thanks

Message: Don't expect much greater mileage. Durango's have never had fuel economy bragging rights. Even the 4.7 is mediocre unless you do all highway miles.

Message: If i could get an average of 14.5mpg i'd be happy. Thats with about 27 freeway miles and 5 city miles per day. I know it's going to be worse then my dakota, but how much?
Just trying to decide if I can afford to stay with dodge, or if i have to look elsewhere for another vehicle (newer 4runner)

Message: i wouldnt say that a durango should get worse... it doesnt have a bed to pull ya against the wind.
my durango w/a 5.2 gets 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway... all stock. I imagine a 4.7 liter gets around the same.

Message: Even though there is no tailgate drag my 2001 Durango (4.7, 45rfe) it still doesn't get as good as mileage as my 2002 Dakota QC (4.7, nv3500). I have a hard tonneau cover on it which gave me 1 MPG.
My wife drives the Durango and she's a little harder than I am on the throttle in stop-and-go driving. Both trucks see nearly the same driving patterns and routes. My Dakota gets 17.5 MPG, and I'm happy if the Durango gets 15.5 MPG.
