Message: I was wondering the same thing except I have a 5.9L..Ive gone thru 2 sets of so called "universal" fan clutch pulley holders that dont work..and one specifically for the dodge 5.9L and it doesnt work. I cant figure out why or what. The instructions arent clear at all..but Im not a moron either. This should be simple. It is on every other vehicle out there.

| Got a question on fan clutch noise? IP: Logged
Message: I just bought an 01 with a V6. I get this loud air rush noise (at about 1800 rpm) the first couple blocks I drive it. At first I thought it was the transmission going! Read on another post that this is the fan clutch overspeeding the fan initially till I guess the fluid evens out. Is this really how these operate or is it a sign of future problems. I've had over a half dozen vehicles with fan clutches and never had this problem before.

Message: On my '02 4.7L, I used a pipe wrench on the big nut attached to the fan clutch (the pipe wrench handle stuck out beyond the fan blades) and gave the pipe wrench handle a couple whacks with a big rubber mallet. That loosened the nut and I spun the clutch and fan off with my hand. I'm not sure if yours is the same, but, as I was facing the engine, the nut loosened counter-clockwise (right to left). There was enough clearance to pull the fan and clutch out from the top without removing anything else. Good luck.
