Subject: 46RE converter lock-up IP: Logged
Message: 46RE in 1998 Jeep 5.9. Want to raise converter lock-up speed to above 50 MPH. Currently factory has it at 38 MPH (too low). Can it be reprogrammed? Cut a wire to disable? Purchase a non-locking converter.
Thanks

As far as having the wire cut I've done it to a Chevy 700R4 but not a Dodge. I'd assume the 46RE being a LOT less electronic than my 5-45RFE may not even throw a code if you install a inline switch. I'd install a switch near or on your shifter and then you could overide it whenever you want.
When we dropped my bro in-law's 46RE on his 2000 Ram (to replace the damaged pump and converter) it looked to be mostly mechanical like the old 727's/904's with the overdrive and lockup being the only thing electronic. There may not even be any feedback to the PCM weather it actually engages or not.
