Subject: How Long your battery last? IP: Logged
Message: We've had questions on how long your breaks have lasted (mine 39K so far) What about your battery?
I just replaced mine - gave out no warning 80 miles from home. I got a jump start and got to a sears service center for a new optima red top.
My battery lasted 4 years 8 months.
I have a 2000 quad cab 4x4 with the HD V6

Message: Well, the battery in my 2004 QC is still going strong :)
My 1991 Miata still has the original battery after almost 14 years and 236K miles.

Message: The OEM battery gave up the ghost about a month ago in my 2000 Dakota, with out much warning. It cranked a little slower for a few days and then wouldn't even turn the engine over one morning.
4-5 years is a pretty good run for a battery

Message: Mine is 38 months old. It is a factory five year. Remember the principles of battery function means that to generate current potential, the plates must erode.

Message: Most battery failure is due to dirty terminals which means that the battery has a larger draw when used and in some cases can "leak" current to ground via the dirty terminals. In that case your battery plates are eroding at a greater pace when used during normal operation, and when idle.

Message: Five yrs on mine. Of course, it does sit on a shelf in the basement for about 5 months in the winter (on a trickle charger).
Vibration kills a bat., too, so a 4x4 may see reduced bat. life.

Message: I just installed a new battery in feb. Prior to that I installed one 4 years previous. Alot of things go into battery life.
And for those that don't have one, I suggest picking up one of those battery jump start systems. I have one of the everstart ones from wal-mart that I got as a Christmas present in like 1998 and the first time I used it was this past feb. I think the one I received retails around $40 and it's for small and midsize trucks. Larger ones are a little more. You just need to charge it every 3 months. It works like a charm, you don't have to worry about finding someone, having jumper cables long enough to reach, etc.

Message: '00 Qc 4x4 4.7 I took delivery of int he end of October '00 and the original battery died almost 4 years to the day. It went with out any warning. I got home after driving with a car on the trailer, shut it off and that was it. The truck wouldn't even start witht he portable jump starter. It appears that it just shorted out. I replaced it with a 1000 CCA battery because I do have an electric/hydraulic snow plow. I was waiting for it to die so I could justify buying the better battery.

Message: Had to replace mine yesterday. Got in my truck to go to work and NOTHING.... not even a clicking noise. Tried to jump it with the wife's van and the engine turned over real slow but that was it. I was prepared for the worst, but with the new battery it fired right up. It's been idling kinda high, but I guess the computer has to readjust everything. I got 3 years out of the OEM battery. Not bad for Colorado. The winters are hard on them. '02 QC 4.7 AWD LSD

Wondering if it will give up the ghost without warning as others noted. Especially as winter approaches here in NE Ohio. Probably should start looking for a good deal . . .

Message: Yea, watch out when the cranking gets a little slower, thats what happened to me. It only did it to me for a couple days then one morning when im already running late for work all i get is clicks. so I waited a minute, turned on the headlights for a second and it barley started, but i had to keep the engine RPM up to keep it from dying. But the bat wouldn't take a charge, when i got to work and shut it off for about 30 min it wouldn't start again. Had a new Battery put in while i was at work.
