Message: Hello everyone:
I just bought a 2000 Dodge Dakota on 11/6. It is a regular cab with the 3.9 V6. It has just less than 54,000 miles. I am having one problem right now. When the passenger door opens the courtesy light inside the cab turns on like normal. However, when the driver side door opens the light will not go on. I noticed the fuse for the dash dimming lights was blown so I replaced that and they now work properly. This isn't related is it? I will check all the fuses tomorrow just to make sure. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance.

Message: What door chime do you mean? I don't hear any noises when the door is opening or just sitting open. Should I be hearing a noise? Security...The truck doesn't have any. All of the other lights seem to work.
One other thing:
On the driver side seat (I have the bench in the front with the fold down arm rest) there seems to be less padding on the door side of the seat. Almost like it is worn away from sliding out of the car? I saw a web site from a Durango that shows how to fix his seat. Anyone ever tried doing it? Thanks

Message: Andrew,
I have a similar issue, only with me, it's the passenger door that does not open. There is a little push button swith on the cab of the truck that is spring loaded. When the door opens it, the spring is released and the light is supposed to come on, when the door is closed the spring is compressed and it opens the relay. This is a small piece that screws into the door frame. attached to it is a wire. This spring mechanism is broken on mine. I am going to order a new one from the dealer soon. It could be that the wire is lose, there is a problem with the wiring or the spring mechanism piece is bad. You will have to remove the side floor board panel to access it. I also had to remove a screw from the panel on the floorboard as the side floor door panel has a piece that runs along the floorboard that is under the floor piece (this is the piece right at the bottom of the door). It's very simple to remove, just need to losen a few screws.

Message: I looked, although it was with a flashlight, for the mechanism you were talking about, but I couldn't find it. Where is it...down on the bottom somewhere? Towards the front or back? Thanks

Message: You won't have a switch in your door jamb, the newer models have a CTM (Central timer module) that controls several things and it senses door position (open/close) by the latch itself.
The sensor in the latch may be bad (never heard of it, just a possibility) or the previous owner may have cut/removed the ground wire that tells the CTM the door is open. Ask around for which wire is the drivers door, be sure to say what year it is. I beleive 00-01 are the same...
I put my wire on a switch so that if I want the door open and the radio on, I don't have the buzzer going.
