Subject: Roadmaster Install Today IP: Logged
Message: OK. I installed a Roadmaster Active Suspension kit on my '04 QC 4.7 Dak today. I have a few comments/questions.
I jacked up the vehicle & put jack stands under the frame - allowing the axle to hang from the leafs. Then, I loosened one side at a time & installed the plate on top of the leafs - but under the u-bolt top plate. I then put it together - w/ the top bracket over top the leaf eye. Then, I preloaded it using a quarter - in the middle of the spring...
So, as I pulled out on my test drive - I heard a "POP" as the rear dropped off the curb. Then, I heard it 2 more times when the rear end hit some pretty stiff bumps. Any idea on what this could be?
The rear seems a bit stiffer now - what have you guys done to get your perfect adjustment on this? Is the quarter a bit too much preload for this vehicle?
It DID help the cornering a good bit - doesn't even feel like the same vehicle in turns and u-turns.
Thoughts?

Message: I found the recomended preload to work well for me; no weird noises. Did you get the u bolts good and tight ?

Message: OK - thanks. I used a quarter between the 9th & 10th coils. Yeah, I torqued them to 100ft/lbs. I'm going to drive it a bit more & then retorque. Possibly it's "settling" still.
I like the feel of it a lot - if it doesn't pop anymore - I'll be yet another thrilled user!

Message: Yeah, I'd check all your bolts...when I replaced my rear shocks we thought we had all the bolts tight, but on the test drive one settled and came loose and would pop over every bump we hit. After tightening it, all was fine.

Message: Its been a few years since I installed mine - I don't remember letting the axle hang unsupported. Was that in the instructions ? If not, maybe that allowed some slack between the springs when you tightened ?
