Subject: Brakes Squeaking? IP: Logged
Message: Only 14000 miles and brakes are squeaking. Why?
Should I replace the pads? What are the best pads to use?

Message: Doesn't mean you need new pads. Check out the thread on how long do you breaks last - a long time

Message: Disc brake squeal is caused by the pads vibrating in the mounts. Go to Pep Boys and get a package of Permatex Disc Brake Quiet. Remove the pads and clean the mounting surfaces. Apply the goop, and reassemble. Let the truck sit over night before driving it.
My '95 Ram had a real problem with this. I had to do this job about every year. I've only done it once to the Dakota, now at 60K miles on the factory pads.

Message: skribblz, double check by testing your brakes that
the rotors are NOT warped. If you feel the peddle
going up and down at all, don't bother to do
.boB's suggestion. You're gonna need new rotors
and pads anyway.
Don't bother to have the factory rotors turned or
trued up. They are JUNK. And yes, even at 14k on
your truck, they are JUNK. Don't let your
*friendly* Dodge stealer install anything! They
are using the same factory JUNK that are on your
truck now..
I used Bendix rotors and ceramic pads from Advance
Auto Parts. VERY happy with the results.
